Launch of the new ADL-Liberty Global report “Unlocking Gigaworld Innovation”

GigaApps in a GigaWorld

On Sept 29th, Arthur D. Little presented its new report on GigaWorld at Liberty Global’s Tech Summit in Amsterdam in the ZiggoDome in front of 2000 participants, followed by a press conference. According to this report, GigaWorld – the world enabled by widespread access to high quality, gigabit internet in which people, machines and the environment collaborate intelligently – has the potential to unlock a market of €250-660 billion per year by 2025 in Europe around, while at a global level, its value is predicted to be €1.3-3.5 trillion per year. It is enabling a new wave of GigaApps, such as Augmented Discovery, Virtual Telepresence and Automated Living. During the presentation of the report, Ignacio G, Alves, CEO ADL, said “You cannot prescribe innovation, but you can discourage it. Until now, regulation has been regulating the past,” while taking the example of the introduction of DVB-H as an example. “They were going to push DVB-H, but in the end the model didn’t work, because it was not clear who was going to pay for what.”
